Imitation vs. Innovation, the AI duel
Hey, technology and AI lovers! Today we dive into the fascinating world of artificial intelligence (AI), that stuff that sometimes sounds like we’re about to be conquered by super-intelligent robots. But, hold on to your excitement! It turns out that AI may have a little problem, and no, it’s not with homework; according to some geniuses at the University of California at Berkeley, AI, although the queen of imitation, has a hard time innovating, and here we are, thinking that our little machines were about to become the new Leonardo da Vinci.
Now, let’s not get serious; let’s talk about something we all know: solving problems. While you, your little cousin and even your grandmother can find creative uses for everyday things (yes, even your grandmother), it turns out that AIs don’t have that spark to see things from another angle. Did you know that ChatGPTs and company are trained as if they were super readers in a cultural megolibrary? But, man, it gets interesting because they can’t get out of the pre-established script, while you think about using a teapot to make a circle, they stick to “I’m a teapot, I serve tea”. Poor AI, it lacks your creativity!
In an experiment they put children and adults against these AIs, the task was to identify cool combinations of objects and then innovate with them. It turns out that you, me, and even the neighbor across the street beat the AIs at that. We are the wizards of creative ingenuity! AIs mimic well, but when it comes to innovation, they get lost in the shuffle like GPS without a signal. Although we shouldn’t be hard on them, they are in diapers, literally! There is still much to learn and improve in the exciting world of AI. So, guys and gals, the next time you think of a genius robot, remember that you are the real hero of innovation. Let’s keep exploring and learning together on this technological journey!
