Data Mining, the big picture

Data mining is not just about extracting information from data, it is about the knowledge and understanding that is needed to traverse any large data set, whether it is a database or a website. Data mining, in the most basic sense, refers to the process of selecting useful information from the massive amounts of data that exist in any medium, regardless of whether it is digital or analog. However, this definition only scratches the surface of what this term really means.
