Have you heard about the Moebius Band?

It is the strangest and most curious geometric object that exists, discovered by the German mathematicians August Ferdinand Möbius and Johann Benedict Listing in 1858. It is a two-dimensional surface projected into three-dimensional space, having only one face and one edge. In case this has not completely disoriented you, you should also know that it is, what is called in mathematics, a non-orientable object, that is, interior, exterior, up, down, right and left have no meaning in this object.

If you walk across the surface of a Moebius strip without changing direction, you’ll end up at the same point you started but upside down, and if you were looking to the right, you’ll find yourself looking to the left. If you keep walking in the same direction, you will reach the starting point having covered the entire surface of the object.

It’s actually extraordinarily simple to build, you just need a sheet of paper, scissors and glue or tape and follow these simple steps:

Cut a strip of paper about 4 or 5 cm wide and about 30 cm long.

Form a ring with the ribbon.

Turn one end 180º and attach it to the other end with tape or glue.
